With a view to cater to requirements of different categories of passengers served by Indian Railways, available reserved accommodation is distributed broadly under following types of reservation quotas:

1. कोई महिला अकेली या 3 साल से कम उम्र के बच्चे के साथ

2. इंडियन रेल्वे की ज़्यादातर trains होता है और केवल
स्लीपर क्लास मे उपलब्ध है।
3. हर ट्रेन में कुल 6 सीट होती है और सभी सीट एक साथ
 होती है।
4. सीट बुक करने के लिए फोरम पे "Ladies Quota" लिखना
 होता है या फिर ऑनलाइन "Ladies Quota" चयन करके
टिकिट बुक कर सकते है ।
5. इस श्रेणी में कन्फ़र्म टिकिट ही मिलती है , कोई RAC/WL
नहीं होता । सभी 6 सीट बुक होने के बाद  "Not Available" Show करता है।

1. Foreign Tourists (including NRIs) holding a
valid passport can now avail the IRCTC Foreign
Tourist Quota facility to book railway tickets online.

2.  According to the ticketing arm of the Indian Railways,
 international users can book tickets under the IRCTC Foreign
 Tourist Quota up to 365 days in advance.

1. It is the reserve seats quota in INDIAN RAILWAY
for INDIAN ARMED FORCES which Army Navy and
Airforce persons and their family can utilise by MCO
(MOVEMENT CONTROL OFFICE at railway station.

2. By Defence quota there are some seats reserved in
1A, 2AC, 3AC and sleeper class of INDIAN RAILWAY
 but defence person only get confirmed seat when he she
is having waitlist ticket and for confirm ticket through
MCO it will confirm the seat

1. In case of a cancer patient or patients with any other
deadly diseases, tickets are issued under
Medical Emergency.
2. A form has to be filled in order to get
the concession from IR and also berth will
be allotted to the patient and one person
accompanying the patient.

1. Divyangjan Quota formerly known as
physically handicapped quota is meant for
the physically challenged passengers.

2. Two sleeper class berths is earmarked
in all trains running for handicapped persons
 performing their journey on handicapped
concession ticket.

1. It is a quota of seats reserved for unemployed
 "youth" between the ages of 15 and 45 and can
be availed only by producing a certificate issued
under National Rural Employment Guarantee
(NREGA) as proof of unemployment.
 2. The Yuva Quota is available on only TWO
trains on the Indian Railways network.
3. These are the 12247/48 Bandra-Nizamuddin-
Bandra Yuva Express and the 12249/50
Howrah-New Delhi-Howrah Yuva Express,
both weekly.

4. These trains have full Air-Conditioned
sitting accommodation with 3x3 seating
on both sides

Emergency

Urgent travel requirement
of Government Officials

1. HO quota is available for any Government
Servants one who can prove the urgency of the
 travel.

2. The discretion of the Chief Reservation
Supervisor and the staff in charge of chart
 finalisation plays an important role.

3. One has to apply for release of HO
quota and submit the application to the
CRS on the morning of the date of journey.

While booking reserved tickets through the website of Indian Railway Catering & Tourism Corporation(IRCTC), passengers can book tickets under General Quota, Ladies Quota, Foreign Tourist Quota, Premium Tatkal Quota, Tatkal Quota, Senior Citizen Quota, and Physically Handicapped (Divyangjan) Quota. In addition to the above quotas, accommodation can also be allotted under Reservation Against Cancellation(RAC) & Pooled Quota while booking reserved tickets through website of IRCTC. These reservation quotas constitute approximately 94% of total reserved accommodation available on Indian Railways, which can be booked both through internet as well as through computerised Passenger Reservation System (PRS) of Indian Railways.
To avoid any misuse, this facility is generally not extended for those quotas which require prior physical verification of documents. However, recently this facility has been extended to persons with disability, Press correspondents and Defence Personnel. Extension of such facilities to different categories of passengers is a continuous and ongoing exercise.
